Colors and Patterns

Explained

Traditional Ragdolls come in beautiful patterns like pointed, bicolor, mitted, and colorpoint, all featuring striking blue eyes. Rarer patterns include tortie and lynx. However, Ragdolls also come in unique color variations called mink and sepia, with a wider range of eye colors. Ragdolls come in a variety of colors, including seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, flame (red), and cream. Below explains only the colors and patterns that we offer here at M&M Ragdolls.

All photos shown are kittens born from our cattery or our own cats.

Colors

Seal

The Seal color in Ragdolls is one of the most classic and popular shades. Seal colored Ragdolls have a rich, dark brown (almost black) color. This contrasts beautifully with their lighter, creamy-colored bodies, creating a striking, classic look. The color deepens as the cat matures, making adult Ragdolls with the Seal color appear even more dramatic with their dark points against their soft, light-colored bodies.

Blue

The Blue color in Ragdolls is a soft, cool-toned shade that resembles a slate gray or light bluish-gray. The blue color is less intense than Seal, giving Blue Ragdolls a softer, almost smoky appearance that is both unique and calming.

Chocolate

The Chocolate color in Ragdolls is a brown color that resembles milk chocolate and has a warm tone to it. It looks like a lighter shade of the Seal color, and a little tinge of orange can sometimes be seen in this color. Their bodies are a white or pale ivory color. The Chocolate color is not as common as Seal.

Patterns

Colorpoint and Pointed Ragdolls

Colorpoint and Pointed Ragdolls both feature a classic pattern with darker 'points' on the ears, face, paws, and tail. “Colorpoint” and “Pointed” are usually used interchangeably, though they’re technically not the same. However, they are very similar. Both patterns showcase the signature Ragdoll look with their striking contrast between the body and point colors. The main difference is that colorpoints display deeper, more defined shading along their body, whereas pointed Ragdolls have a lighter, or white body.

Mitted

The Mitted pattern in Ragdolls features white “mittens” on their front paws and longer white “boots” on their back legs. In addition to the white mitts, Mitted Ragdolls have a white chin and can sometimes have a white stripe or “blaze” down the nose. There are also different levels of mitting: Standard Mitted has white just on the paws and chin, while High Mitted includes more white on the legs and underbelly.

Mink

The Mink Ragdoll has a soft, velvety coat and richer, darker colors compared to traditional Ragdolls. The Mink gene goes back to the very first Ragdolls and gives them their smooth fur, darker bodies, and unique look. Their fur is slightly softer than a traditional Ragdoll’s coat. Unlike traditional Ragdolls, which are born white and gain color over time, Mink Ragdolls are born with color. They can have different eye colors, from the traditional blue, to green or gold- making them stand out while still having the sweet, loving personality Ragdolls are known for.
